I
think we’re ready for the coffee and pie by Ran Scot

“So why?”
“Why what?”
“Why are two good-looking intelligent people like us alone?”
“I think it’s cuz we expect to much. We’ve grown
up seeing the prefect love, or date, or chance meeting on television,
movies, and books for years. Everyday love isn’t good enough
anymore. It has to be a Speilbergian explosion of lust, romance,
and desire. A bowling game of 300.”
“You think?”
“I know.”
“Oh, you know.”
“Why? What is your explanation?”
“Easy, we’re simply in touch to much, that’s
why we’re alone. The better technology gets for us to communicate,
the more isolated we become on a personal level.”
This nearly causes her to snort the pie out her nose. She smirks
and drinks some of her coffee.
"I
have known more men destroyed by the desire to have wife and child
and to keep them in comfort than I have seen destroyed by drink
and harlots."
~William Butler Yates
The news came a week prior to the annual office holiday party.
The head of the group was leaving the firm and taking his top
two senior officers with him. A sense of abandonment was permeating
throughout the office. It seemed as if their departure was extremely
well timed with the guarantee of their enormous bonuses. When
one ran the most prestigious trading desk on Wall Street for over
a decade, one’s compensation could be considered extremely
generous. Even by the Street’s standards.

y a veces excéntricos.

Ristorante Bella Italia stands inside one
of the more historic, and some would say ‘infamous’,
hotels in SMA. The Hotel Sauto has long been known for its reasonable
prices and its flamboyant and at times dubious guests. The restaurant
is run and managed by its owner and chef, Paolo Bizzotto, whom
rents the space from the Sauto.
The food definitely has an Italian sazón, the ambience
is informal and laid back. As a matter of fact, it reaches the
point where you will actually turn to your dinner partner and
ask each other, “...when do you think they will bring a
menu?”

Running
the Bull
or More Favorite Liars

Fellini was once asked if he was making
things up when he told stories. “No,” he answered.
“Every story I tell happened just as I tell it. It is only
that I tend to repeat myself, so I feel a responsibility to friends
to make a story more interesting each time I tell it—but
it is always the truth.”

A ser extranjera se aprende. Puede ser comprometidamente
fácil o irremediable y complicado. La sentencia es sencilla,
vivirla, no tanto. Hablo como siempre, con la única posibilidad
que tengo: la que conozco. (Comprendiendo esto cada vez menos
obviamente).

One of the best things about Japan is that
it reminds you just how different cultures can be. Across this
bridge of understanding stand games known as “kuso-ge”,
or shit games. Within this genre was the utterly uncalled for
and soul-shakingly disturbing “Cho Aniki” series,
or as the delightful review says: “I’ve heard that
it loosely translates to ‘Super Big Brother’ and/or
‘Great Big Brother’, but as far as I’m concerned,
it really translates to ‘A Bunch of Speedo-Wearing Homosexual
Lunatics with Holes in their goddamned Heads.’”

Kinky
by Stucco Steve
At
this time Bobbie got quite animated in protest of her experience
in Dallas. Of course, so did Jackie Kennedy. The experience Kinky
and I had was euphoric and we both went overboard in our praise
of what we remembered.
Flash-forward to 2005. Someone I’ve known all my adult life
is running for Texas Governor. Kinky! Who do you think I’m
voting for? Like Jessie Ventura, Kinky is running as an independent.
Therein lies the problem, at least in Texas that is. If an independent’s
war chest was converted to gasoline there wouldn’t be enough
to run an ant’s putt-putt around a BB. I’m urging
all my friends registered to vote in Texas to call their friends
and spread the word. Forget those big buck candidates. Vote your
heart!

Olson

generaciones.

punk rock culture, Olson has emerged as a hero to three generations
