¿Está aquí Little Brother para salvar el
alma del hiphop de los gangstas con sus fachadas repletas de platino
matándose unos a otros y a la música en vinil? Bueno,
probablemente no. De todos modos, serán situados entre
la elite de la vanguardia de los creadores de ritmo y MC’s
como A Tribe Called Quest, Common y Outcast.
Los sonidos de soul-jazz de este trío de North Carolina,
están muy permeados con retro fuzz. Los flujos verbales
de Pooh y MC Phonte se filtran con facilidad, meciéndose
entre los tracks, tocando temas de relaciones, tratando de armarla
en el negocio de los discos (… regla #4080, la gente de
la industria discográfica es shady) y mostrar las verdaderas
habilidades de un MC. El productor 9th Wonder es la indiscutible
estrella de The Minstrel Show, soltando beats,  samples
y las vibras de un veterano experimentado y dando el monto correcto
de libertad y autocontrol para ondear uno de los más sólidos
álbumes de underground hiphop del 2005.
(English) Is Little Brother here to save the
soul of hiphop from the gangstas with platinum fronts killing
each other and the music on wax? Well, probably not. They will,
however, be ranked among the forward thinking elite beat makers
and MC’s…groups like A Tribe Called Quest, Common,
and Outcast.
This North Carolina trio’s soul-jazz beats are laced heavy
with retro fuzz. Pooh and MC Phonte’s verbal flows drip
with ease, bouncing over the tracks, touching on subject of relationships,
trying to make it in the record business (…rule # 4080,
record industry people are shady) and showing real MC skillz.
Producer 9th Wonder is the real star of The Minstrel Show; dropping
beats, samples and the vibes of a seasoned veteran and showing
the right amount of freedom and restraint to weave one of the
most solid underground hip hop albums of 2005. (Audiochef)

La mejor manera de describir Peel es relajación total mientras
flotas divertido en el aire, sabiendo que mañana todo estará
bien. Ya sabes, es como una tierna foto de un gatito. Mediante
la combinación de muchos instrumentos diferentes para el
bien del equipo, pero nunca cayendo al abismo de la pared del
sonido, cada miembro es capaz de mostrar sus destrezas en lo que
hacen mejor y sin duda es rocanrolear. Hay todavía una
aparición de un Moog, siempre un plus, especialmente cuando
sabes cómo usarlo. Es difícil creer que una banda
así de nueva pueda ser tan precisa, si tan sólo
encontráramos esa misma cualidad en las putas de la Zona
Roja. Te sorprenden. Pero en forma positiva. Es la música
perfecta para manejar en verano y espero que esté sonando
cuando menos de paseo a Tolantongo. Creo que también podrías
caminar con ella, pero no sin hacer el baile del chango chido.

letting you know tomorrow will be fine is the best way to describe
Peel. Like a funny picture of a kitten you know? By combining
many different instruments for the good of the team, but never
going to the abyss of the wall of sound, each member is able to
exhibit their skills at what they do best. Which seems to be rocking
out. There is even an appearance by a Moog, always a plus, especially
when you actually know how to use one. It’s hard to believe
a band this new can be so tight, if you only found that same quality
in a Port Authority whore. They surprise you. But this is in a
good way. This is perfect summer driving music, and I expect it
to be blaring on at least one trip to Tolantongo. I do believe
you could also walk to this, but not without also rocking out.

Tocar 20 canciones en 26 minutos y tener un nombre así,
no hay sorpresas aquí: este quinteto de Memphis fue claramente
criado con grandes dosis de  bandas
hardcore de finales de los 80s en Nueva York como Sheer Terror
y Sick Of It All. Muy buen hardcore políticamente furioso.
Estos tipos no se andan con babosadas.
(English) Playing 20 songs in 26 minutes and
having a name as such, you get no surprises here: this Memphis
quintet was clearly reared on large doses of late-‘80s New
York City hardcore bands like Sheer Terror and Sick Of It All.
Real good politically pissed off hardcore. These guys aren’t

Me salté directo al track 3 porque mis esposa tiene esta
teoría de que si una banda no puede mantener tu atención
hasta la tercera canción, no merece tu  tiempo.
Así que aquí estoy con “Live & Die By
The Shotgun Rules” con la guitarra al estilo Iron Maiden
y lleno de chicos chillando letras al estilo emo. Claramente,
esta banda está atrapada en un movimiento - ¿Te
dice algo Fallout Boy?
(English) I immediately skip to track 3 because
my wife has this theory that if a band can’t hold your attention
by the third song, they’re not worth your time. So here
I am at “Live & Die By The Shotgun Rules”, Iron
Maiden style guitar licks and plenty of boys do cry emo lyricism.
Clearly, this band is caught in a movement – can you say
Fallout Boy?

A pesar de ser su séptima producción, he estado
enamorado como escuincle desde la primera vez que aparecieron
estas niñas allá en los 90s. Como reinas de cabellos
negros del rock independiente, sus cinturones blancos reinaron
supremos. No sólo porque eran súper monos hicieron
llorar a Jane Fonda de Barbarella, sino porque se los pusieron
para dar un concierto de rock. Directo de la escuela de ‘entre
más efectos mejor’, sus reventadas guitarras se distorsionan
entre las letras gritadas. Les siguen dulces sonrisas. Si estás
buscando llenar el vacío de bandas femeninas de rock independiente
en tu  colección,
te sugiero que empieces aquí. Ah, y el álbum es
sobre el fallido matrimonio de un año de una de las integrantes,
así que a ustedes niñas, les va a encantar.
(English) Though this is their seventh release,
I have had a schoolboy crush on these girls since they first appeared
back in the 90s. Like queens of the indie rock black hairs, their
white belts reigned supreme. Not only because they were so super
cute they made Jane Fonda from Barbarella cry, but because they
also put on one hell of rock show. From the school of more effects
the better, their overdriven guitars distort out across the oft-screamed
lyrics. Followed by sweet smiles. If you are looking to fill the
void of all girl indie rock bands in your collection, I would
suggest starting here. Oh, and the album is about a member of
the band’s one-year failed marriage, so you chicks will
dig it.
