la infancia Pablo Levinas y Cielo son dos tercios del colectivo
llamado Deep Root Productions. Han estado colaborando como productores
cinematográficos por 5 años y realizando proyectos
fílmicos serios durante los dos últimos. La compañía
productora ubicada en San Miguel de Allende trabaja con varios grupos
musicales y filma sus propios cortos y documentales. Pablo actualmente
está rodando un documental para la banda de rock mexicana
Kinky, mientras Cielo administra nuestra más querida pulquería
En Agua. Deep Root y Kinky, recientemente se reunieron en SMA para
filmar el  último
video de la banda, llamada “Minotauro” del nuevo álbum
‘Atlas’.

Childhood friends Pablo Levinas and Cielo are two-thirds of the
multimedia collective called “Deep Root Productions”.
They have been collaborating as filmmakers for the past five years
and have been seriously filming for the past two. The San Miguel-based
production company works with various musical bands and shoots their
own short films and documentaries. Pablo is currently helming a
documentary for the Mexican alt-rock band Kinky, while Cielo runs
our most beloved pulque hall, En Agua. Deep Root and Kinky recently
reunited in San Miguel de Allende to film the band’s latest
video “Minotauro”, off their new album “Atlas”.

Una
historia del tiempo, rejuevenecimiento psico-hipnotico y caguamas

Despiertas temprano, sales
tarde, en un estado onírico aparente... Y sigue así
el tema musical de San Miguel de Allende y de la cara surrealista
de todo México. La idea del tiempo aquí, como muchos
sabrán, no sigue las reglas. O sea que en lugar de un día
de 24 horas, podemos tener fácilmente uno de 68 horas o de
27 segundos... Lo cual nos deja en algún lugar entre la tercera
y la cuarta dimensión, cautivos en el vértice que
dibuja y atrapa a tantos de nosotros aquí.
Aquellos que vienen de visita, tienden a amar u odiar este aparentemente
dócil pueblo colonial en el alto desierto de México.
Embelesados por su pintoresca belleza, posponen todos sus planes
para prolongar el encanto. Otros, se ven inmediatamente expuestos
al lado oscuro de esta energía y son expulsados por los ambientes
del exceso. La  forma
de comunicación aquí, es de oídas; comúnmente
se desvanecen las líneas entre este jaloneo de circunstancias
iguales y opuestas. Se dice que todo depende de la dirección
del viento en determinado día para que nos toque y nos lleve...
o nos mantenga aquí, para nosotros debemos quedarnos.
A Tale
of Time, Psycho-hypnotic Rejuvenation and Caguamas

Up early, out late, a seemingly constant
dream state…And so goes the theme song of San Miguel de Allende
and the surreal side of Mexico as a whole. The idea of time here
as many are aware does not follow the norm. Instead of a 24 hour
day we can easily have a 68 hour day or 27 second day…which
leaves us somewhere between the third and forth dimension, caught
in the vortex that draws and captures so many of us here.
Those who come to visit, tend to love or hate this seemingly docile
colonial town in high desert Mexico. Captured by its quaint beauty,
they push forward all other plans to prolong the enchantment. Others
are exposed immediately to the darker side of this energy and are
repelled by a fowl air of pomp and overindulgence. Hearsay is the
mode of communication, usually blurring the lines between this push
and pull of equal and opposite circumstances. It is said that it
all depends on the direction of the wind on a certain day to touch
and take us away…or keep us here, for we must stay.

¿Qué se puede decir
de alguien exitoso a quien sólo has visto o escuchado ocasionalmente
y que sabes que es toda una figura en la escena musical contemporánea?
Pueden tener muchas respuestas, pero yo llegué a San Miguel
‘como música y acompañamiento’ (o sea,
de metiche), para ver la filmación del nuevo video de Kinky
y me encontré con otra cara que no puedo confundir. Conocí
en 10 minutos a una chica grácil, sencilla, enamorada: Eli
Guerra.

a lo largo de la historia, y si bien podemos mencionar grandes de
esas fatalidades románticas (qué sería de tal
emoción sin su ingrediente lastimero), no hay ninguna que
se compare con el triste, meloso e impactante desenlace de Romeo
y Julieta. La chica de apellido Capuleto se quitó la vida
contando con tan sólo trece años. El amor, ya es de
sobra sabido, puede acarrear estados de locura que pueden finalizar
en catástrofes de todo tipo.

Who Swim With Sharks

a downed bleeding pilot without taking so much as a nibble. There
are also reports of them rearing up out of the water and taking
a bite out of someone’s ass. Sharks are the most unpredictable
animals in the universe and demonstrate no particular behavior patterns.
Now that we have that out of the way, what are we going to do the
rest of the week?”

One of the amusements of living in SMA amongst
artists, musicians, poets, retirees and the super rich, is that
all these groups are top heavy in members that could best be described
as professional hard liquor drinkers. Amateurs trying to match the
Pro’s level of consumption end up with the notorious two-day
hangover or at the Hospital de la Fe struggling to remember the
Spanish translation for “Please pump my stomach and make the
boogey man go away.” Some are confused as to which group they
belong, the professional hard liquor drinker or the amateur drinker
(read alcoholic). As a public service I have devised a simple test
to end any confusion with the two groups and in the interest of
your health, I urge you to take the test.

viaje personal, las palabras y los símbolos se reúnen
en la obra de Maria Morley. Una entrega íntima y reflexiva
trabajada introspectiva e intuitivamente.
A lo largo de sus estudios de maestría en el Instituto Allende,
el barro ha sido su especialidad, sin embargo es en el hábitat
de los objetos reciclados, la basura reutilizada, la construcción
y lo parcialmente efímero, lo que caracteriza la obra.

El otro día sentado en la barra del
bar, no dejé de escuchar la conversación de la gente
al lado mío: ‘¡Wow! La Pasión de Cristo,
la mejor película, qué increíble, qué
maravillosa...’, bla, bla, bla. Bueno, con tanta gente hablando
de lo mismo, no tuve otra opción que ir a la gran pantalla
y verla por mí mismo. Con mis palomitas y mi chesco en las
manos, me senté por 2 horas para, finalmente, ver la aclamada
película.
