If there is anything to be learned from this collection of silent Mexican pornographic films from 1910 – 1950, it’s that the more things change, the more they stay the same. Anyone who is quick to dismiss these shorts as merely trite and quaint stag films from the first days of Mexican cinema will be in for quite a surprise.

Not only has not much changed in the past one hundred years of porn (the cinematography, the narrative and the action all remain the same) but in many ways these films are far more explicit when compared to your standard contemporary fare. We see both the male and female genitalia prominently on display. There is no trick photography here. There are no stair-masters or dumb-bells in here—that’s just some guy’s balls. And the actors are all doing their own stunts. We see actual penetration—in all its forms. There are no condoms or attempts to restrain the male or female ejaculation. When the male actor finishes his sex act, he finishes inside the actress. This shit is hard-core!

This was long before there was any concept or awareness of Sexually Transmitted Diseases and their prevention—especially within the relatively young porn industry. The major difference is that here the women are clearly the men’s objects, and they don’t share the equal or even dominant roles we’ve seen in only the past 30 years. It’s amazing to see that not only has the modern porn industry not made any innovations, they’ve actually somewhat regressed, when compared to what their ancestors were doing nearly a century ago!

Opium Dreams While I believe it’s on-screen drug use pre-dates “Refer Madness”, this film is most impressive for its special effects. And by special effects, I’m not referring to our actor’s endowment.

Mamaita Adventures in the fourth dimension! The best part about this one is the Spanish play-on-words (albur) on the dialogue screens. And someone has a ‘brilliant’ idea!
