Belly Dancing
- Sizu Yantra, Fábrica, La Roma, México DF, 9 de Septiembre 2006
How many bands’ stage equipment involves a tank of oxygen? Not many. But then how many bands feature a heavily pregnant singer, swinging and shaking, dancing wild and proudly displaying 8 months of burgeoning love and bulging potential?
Café Tacuba’s front man, for the moment known as ‘Sizu Yantra’, and his wife Psikini, presented their new project at a packed and smoky Fábrica in La Roma. The event, supporting both victims of HIV and users of bicycles in DF, gave us the first chance to hear their new music.

The tunes are electro-eclectic, house beats, Indian sitars, abstract lyrics, but with that pop edge that has propelled Café Tacuba into the national consciousness. After a compact set the expecting couple are hustled off stage in a storm of bodyguards and flash photography. Just behind them trails a man with a dolly containing an oxygen tank, just in case. |
